MY STORY
My name is Daniel Chalabi. I was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, where I lived until I was 26. Throughout my life, I’ve been driven by two distinct passions: drawing and exploring the world.
I’ve always wanted to experience other cultures by living them, not just visiting. That journey took me from Buenos Aires to the UK, and eventually to Amsterdam, where I lived for nearly 11 years. During that time, I formally studied visual arts at the University of the Arts of Utrecht.
In 2014, after a period of working in the corporate world, I realized I desperately needed to return to my creativity and freedom. I decided to pursue tattooing—something I had tried before but never with full focus. I landed an apprenticeship in Amsterdam, and by May of that year, I was doing walk-ins at a high-volume shop in the heart of the Red Light District. It was a formative, high-pressure experience that taught me how to handle a massive variety of clients and sharpened my skills quickly through sheer repetition.
Since then, I have worked across the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Argentina, and Uruguay. Today, I call the USA home.
WHAT INSPIRES ME
My inspiration lives where nature meets fantasy and chaos meets decay. I’m drawn to botanicals, organic forms, insects, and animals—often rendered in ways you wouldn’t necessarily expect to find them in the living world.
I love dark motifs and the challenge of finding meticulous order within seemingly chaotic patterns. Traveling and exploring this "odd experience we call reality" continues to fuel me, but I find that I enjoy exploring my own inner landscapes just as much. I dig deep to bring whatever I find to the surface—it’s in that "twilight zone" where the magic really happens.
